Beautifully colored and well preserved Megalodon (Carcharocles megalodon) tooth. The name Megalodon meaning "big tooth", is an extinct species of shark that grew to over 60' long! The jaws were over 6 foot tall containing about 275 teeth at any given time. They frequently ate whales and other large sea creatures to fill their large appetite. The biggest tooth ever found was 7.48" with teeth 5" and larger being very rare. This 5.75" tooth features fantastic serrations and a lovely array of colors. It is a great representation of how big and well preserved these teeth can be found. It's estimated to have come from a 58 foot shark.
